Tribes: Ascend/XP
XP short for Experience, is earned by playing against other players in Tribes: Ascend. It is used for unlocking armors, items, and upgrades. XP also determines a player's rank.
How to Earn XP
XP is earned by playing in matches with other players, meaning you will not earn XP in the Training maps. The longer a player is in a match, the more XP they earn, regardless of the number of credits they earn in the match. If a player leaves the match before it ends, they will still earn the XP they are due. At the end of each match is an End Game Stats Summary page.
- Base XP: is based on how long the player was in the match.
- Bonus XP: is calculated from your Base XP, and other factors from the match, including if the player was on the winning or losing team. Earning a badge will increase this number as well.
- VIP: is 50% of the combined total of the player's Base XP and Bonus XP, if you have VIP status, it will be awarded to you.
- Boost: is the combined total of the player's Base XP, Bonus XP, and VIP. If you have a Booster, it will be awarded to you.
A player that wins their fist match of the day, will be awarded 1,200 XP, which is added to the Bonus XP category. Also, players with Boosters will be awarded 1,200 XP every day that it is active.
VIP
VIP status can no longer be acquired, but if a player has it, it will not be removed. Originally if a player bought gold or paid to get into the Beta, they would be given VIP status. VIP status increases the amount of XP earned by 50%. If you earned 1,000 XP in a match, it would be increased to 1,500.
Boost
Boosters double the amount of XP earned in a match, including VIP boosts, and XP from badges. With a booster and VIP, it is possible to get 9,000 XP by earning an Obsidian Badge. Boosters also award 1,200 XP to a player once a day.
The following boosters are available for purchase:
Cost (gold) | Duration |
---|---|
240 | 1 day |
400 | 3 days |
640 | 10 days |
1,200 | 30 days |
1,600 | 80 days |
How XP is Calculated
The following are estimates the Ascend community has calculated.
- Base XP = (Time played in seconds) x 0.5833
- Bonus XP = ((1[win] or 0[lose]) x (Base XP x 0.25)) + (Base XP x 0.25) / Scoreboard Rank
- VIP = (Base XP + Bonus XP) x 0.5
- Boost = Base XP + Bonus XP + VIP
- Total XP = Base XP + Bonus XP + VIP + Boost
Based on the formulas above, players that are on the winning team always earn more experience, and the higher you place on the scoreboard, will also increase the amount of XP earned. It is also very obvious that players with Boost and VIP status earn a lot more XP.
Example XP Calculations
If a player stays in a match for 15 minutes, is on the winning team, and places 3rd, will earn:
- Base XP = (15 minutes x 60 seconds) x 0.5833 = 525
- Bonus XP = ((1) x (525 x 0.25)) + ((525 x 0.25) / 3) = 175
- Total XP = 525 + 175 = 700
If a player stays in a match for 10 minutes, is on the winning team, and places 1st, will earn:
- Base XP = (10 minutes x 60 seconds) x 0.5833 = 350
- Bonus XP = ((1) x (350 x 0.25)) + ((350 x 0.25) / 1) = 175
- Total XP = 350 + 175 = 525
If a player stays in a match for 10 minutes, is on the losing team, and places 1st, will earn:
- Base XP = (10 minutes x 60 seconds) x 0.5833 = 350
- Bonus XP = ((0) x (350 x 0.25)) + ((350 x 0.25) / 1) = 88
- Total XP = 350 + 88 = 438
If a player stays in a match for 5 minutes, is on the losing team, and places 3rd, has VIP, and Boost will earn:
- Base XP = (5 minutes x 60 seconds) x 0.5833 = 175
- Bonus XP = ((0) x (175 x 0.25)) + ((175 x 0.25) / 3) = 15
- VIP = (175 + 15) x 0.5 = 95
- Boost = 175 + 15 + 95 = 285
- Total XP = 175 + 15 + 95 + 285 = 570
