Aspects from previous Tribes games, such as jetpacks and skiing are featured in the game. Additionally, elements from Tribes: Ascend, including perks, weapons, and packs, have returned. Elements from Starsiege: Raiders have been included as well. Based on the name, it is possible that the game will take place in the same timeline as Tribes: Vengeance which is generally referred to as Tribes 3, or Prophecy Games is not aware that T:V is T3 and they are just making a new game. The game will be available for purchase through Steam for $19.95 for the base edition, with more expensive premium editions including extra cosmetics also available.

Gameplay

Classes

Tribes 3: Rivals features a class-based loadout system similar to Tribes: Ascend, featuring six classes. Each loadout specifies what type of armor the player has, along with what weapons and items they carry. Each loadout supports three in-hand weapons, one belt item such as grenades or mines, and a pack. Cosmetic items such as player and weapon skins can be purchased with real money.

The Light Armor is extremely fast and is best suited for flag capping and chasing. The Medium armor finds the balance between speed and survivability. The Heavy armor is extremely resilient and is unmatched in long range bombardment capabilities. It may be outfitted to fill Heavy on Flag or base destruction roles.

Game Modes and Maps

There are currently 2 game mode, Capture the Flag (5v5 and 12v12) and Time Trial, compared to Tribes: Ascend's previous 5 game modes. Currently, Capture the Flag with support for 64 man servers planned in the future.

Custom Matches and Content

While dedicated or private servers are unlikely, custom matches will be supported as they eventually were in Tribes: Ascend. Users will be able to create custom matches that offer different team sizes and weapon loadouts, custom modes that alter the game’s core physics such as gravity and player speed. Unlike in Tribes: Ascend, custom content will be supported, allowing users to generate their own content such as customized maps and environments.
